Yes, and two separate clocks run on every New Mexico scratcher. The first is the game's own end date — once the New Mexico Lottery closes a game, retailers stop selling it, but tickets already bought are still good. The second is the claim deadline that follows it, and that is the one that matters if you are holding a ticket: once it passes, a winning ticket cannot be redeemed at all. The New Mexico Lottery does not publish a per-game claim deadline in the data we collect, so we do not show one rather than guess at it. Either way, confirm the date against https://www.nmlottery.com before relying on it — it is the difference between claiming a prize and losing it.
Are New Mexico Scratchers the same as scratch-offs?
Yes — New Mexico scratchers and New Mexico scratch-offs are the same thing: a paper lottery ticket you scratch to reveal whether it wins. The New Mexico Lottery lists them under "Scratchers" on its own site. "Scratchers" is simply what most players in New Mexico call them, while "scratch-off" and "scratch ticket" are the terms used in other states. Every game ranked on this page is the same physical ticket, whichever name you use for it.
What does "ending soon" mean for a New Mexico scratcher?
It depends on what the New Mexico Lottery publishes, and it is worth being precise because states differ. In New Mexico the lottery publishes a last day to buy, so a game counts as ending soon here once that date is within about two months. In every case it means the game is on its way out, not that a ticket you already hold is void — prizes stay claimable until the claim deadline. 11 New Mexico games are in that position right now. They are listed first above, ordered by the largest prize still unclaimed, ahead of the rest of the state's games.
Should I buy a New Mexico scratcher that is ending soon?
It depends entirely on what is left in it, not on the fact that it is ending. A closing game that still has its top prizes unclaimed can be one of the better buys in the state, because the remaining tickets are competing for a prize pool that was never won down. A closing game whose big prizes are gone is the worst kind of ticket — full price, nothing left to win. That is why this list is ranked by the largest prize still available rather than by how soon the game ends. Check the number next to each game before deciding.
How long do I have to claim a winning New Mexico scratcher?
The claim window is set by the New Mexico Lottery, and it runs from the game's official end date rather than from the day you bought the ticket — how long it runs differs by state, so there is no single national answer. We do not show a per-game claim date for New Mexico because the New Mexico Lottery does not publish one in the data we collect. The authoritative deadline is on the New Mexico Lottery's own site at https://www.nmlottery.com. Sign the back of a winning ticket as soon as you find it — an unsigned ticket is a bearer instrument, and whoever holds it can claim it. Smaller prizes can usually be claimed at any authorized retailer; larger ones require a lottery claim center or a mailed claim.
How is this different from the New Mexico Lottery's expiring tickets page?
The New Mexico Lottery publishes the official end dates and claim deadlines, and that is the authoritative source for whether a ticket you hold is still good. This page answers the other half: of the games that are closing, which ones still have prizes worth chasing. We recalculate the prizes remaining in every New Mexico game daily from the New Mexico Lottery's own data, so the ranking above reflects what is actually left rather than what the game looked like at launch.
How do I judge a New Mexico scratcher that is ending soon?
1. Decide what winning means to you before you compare anything. No scratcher is good or bad on its own — it is good for one outcome and usually poor for another. The same New Mexico game can sit near the top of the state for winning back your money and near the bottom for winning $100,000. This page shows the games the state is closing, ranked by the largest prize still unclaimed — a game ending with its top prizes intact is worth more than one ending without them. 2. Use odds from prizes and tickets left, not the odds printed on the ticket. Printed odds are fixed the day a game launches and never change. Real odds are the prizes still unclaimed divided by the tickets still out there, and both move daily as the game sells — which is why a New Mexico scratcher can be worth buying one week and not the next with nothing on the ticket changing. Doing this by hand means recalculating it for all 58 active New Mexico games every day. 3. Check the odds for the prize amount you are actually after. Odds to win any prize and odds to win $1,000 are different numbers on the same scratcher, and a game can be strong at one and weak at the other. Look up the odds for your target specifically — $50, $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000 and up — rather than assuming good overall odds carry over to the prize you care about. 4. On a closing game, check what is left before you check the date. A New Mexico scratcher being pulled from shelves tells you nothing on its own. What matters is the prize pool it is closing with: a game ending with its top prizes unclaimed is competing for a pot nobody won, while one ending with them gone is full price for nothing. The end date only sets your deadline — the prizes left decide whether it is worth buying at all. 5. Or read it off a ranking that already did the maths. ScratchOdds recomputes all of the above for every one of the 58 active New Mexico games each day from official New Mexico Lottery data — odds per prize tier, odds to break even, odds to win $50 through $5M, current payout and grand prizes left — then ranks the games by whichever outcome you picked in step one. The ranking on this page is that answer for the games closing soonest. The app adds your budget, working out how many of which ticket to buy.
