More Claim Rules
- Claim deadline
- Every draw game prize must be claimed within 90 days of the drawing, or on the next business day if the lottery is closed on the 90th day. A ticket sent by mail must reach the lottery within that time.
- Debts owed to the state
- Before paying a prize over $600, the lottery checks for debts collected by the New Mexico Human Services Department, such as child support. The department can put a lien on the prize for what's owed, and the lottery holds that amount for up to 90 days.
- Your name
- New Mexico's public records law requires the lottery to release a winner's name, city and prize amount when asked, and the lottery can publish them on its website and in news releases. You don't have to have your photo taken. A winner can ask in writing, when claiming, to stay anonymous for security reasons, and the lottery decides.
- Cash or yearly payments
- A Powerball, Mega Millions or Lotto America jackpot winner has 60 days after claiming the prize to choose cash or yearly payments, and is paid yearly without a choice. The choice can't be changed. A jackpot share with a cash value of up to $2 million for Powerball, $1 million for Mega Millions or $250,000 for Lotto America is paid at once.
- Group wins
- If several people sign a winning ticket, the prize is split in the shares they agree on in writing before it's paid. Each of them fills in a claim form, unless one has power of attorney to sign for the others.
- Exchange tickets
- If you cash a prize on a Multi-Draw ticket before its last drawing, you get an exchange ticket for the drawings left.
