More Claim Rules
- Expanded cashing retailers
- About 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) retailers cash prizes up to $5,000, with a photo ID and proof of your Social Security number for prizes over $600. They can't cash prizes over $600 for winners whose tax ID starts with 9.
- Casinos
- The cashier windows at Maryland's six casinos cash prizes up to $25,000: Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Live! Casino in Hanover, Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin, Hollywood Casino in Perryville and Rocky Gap Casino in Flintstone. You must be 21 to enter a casino, and casinos can't cash prizes over $600 for winners whose tax ID starts with 9.
- Claims Center appointments
- Every claim at the Lottery's Claims Center in Baltimore is by appointment, with no walk-ins, and prizes over $25,000 can only be claimed there or by mail. Bring your ticket, a photo ID and proof of your Social Security number, with your name exactly the same on both, and arrive no more than 5 minutes early.
- Jackpot cash or annuity
- You don't choose cash or yearly payments when you buy a Powerball, Mega Millions or Multi-Match ticket. A jackpot is paid as an annuity unless the winner chooses the cash payment within 60 days of the ticket being validated, even though the ticket can be claimed up to 182 days after the drawing.
- Debts owed to the state
- For certain prize amounts, the lottery takes overdue child support and certain other debts owed to a state agency or other government body out of the prize before paying it.
- Tickets for several drawings
- If a ticket for several drawings wins before its last one, you can cash it right away and get an exchange ticket for the drawings left. A retailer can cash it for prizes up to $600.
- Tickets bought in Maryland
- Powerball, Mega Millions and Powerball Xs & Os tickets bought in Maryland can only be cashed in Maryland.
- Subscriptions
- Mega Millions, Powerball and Multi-Match subscriptions are sold through My Lottery Rewards to players with a Maryland mailing address. Subscription prizes up to $600 are mailed to you, and for larger ones the lottery contacts you to claim.
- Staying anonymous
- A draw game winner can stay anonymous: the lottery doesn't release a winner's name or photo without written consent. This doesn't cover second-chance and Points for Drawings contests in My Lottery Rewards, whose winners are published.
