    More Claim Rules

    Claim deadline
A winning ticket must reach the lottery or a retailer by 5:00 p.m. Arizona time on the 180th day after the drawing. Once a ticket expires, it can't be paid, even if it won.
    Retailers and vending machines
Every Arizona Lottery retailer pays prizes up to $100, and retailers may pay prizes up to $599. Lottery vending machines redeem winning tickets of $300 or less, but only as credit for more tickets in the same transaction, never as cash.
    Saturday claims
Lottery offices pay prizes of any amount Monday through Friday. On Saturdays, the Phoenix and Kingman offices pay draw game prizes under $50,000.
    Debts owed to the state
Before paying a prize of $600 or more, the lottery checks for debts owed to Arizona state agencies, like child support, and pays those out of the prize first. You're told in writing, and can appeal to the agency within 30 days. You still owe taxes on the full prize.
    Staying anonymous
A winner of $100,000 or more can ask on the claim form to keep their name confidential for good. Otherwise the name is kept private for 90 days after the prize is paid. A winner's city and county aren't confidential, and the lottery can name the store that sold the ticket and the amount won.
    Cash or yearly payments
A Powerball, Mega Millions or The Pick jackpot winner has 60 days from presenting the ticket for validation to choose cash or yearly payments. With no choice made, Powerball and Mega Millions pay yearly, and The Pick pays cash.
    Group wins
Every member of a pool must be 21 or older, and all must choose the same way to be paid. One member fills in the back of the ticket, and each member sends a claim form and a copy of their photo ID, all at the same time. Each member's check is picked up or mailed to them, not given to the group's representative.
    Claiming by mail
Fill in the back of the ticket. For a prize of $600 or more, add a claim form and a copy of your government-issued photo ID, and call 480-921-4400 first to check you're sending everything. Keep copies of both sides of the ticket. Once everything arrives, processing takes about two weeks.
