More Claim Rules
- Debts owed to the state
- Before paying a prize of $600 or more, the lottery checks for debts owed to Mississippi, like unpaid child support or money owed to a state agency, and takes them out of the prize after federal tax.
- Group and company claims
- The lottery pays each prize to one claimant: a person, or a company, partnership, trust, estate or nonprofit. A group sharing a prize claims through one member with IRS Form 5754, and the lottery may then pay each member. Every member is checked for debts owed to the state.
- Multi-draw tickets
- If you cash a winning multi-draw ticket before its last drawing, you get an exchange ticket for the drawings left. Exchange tickets can't be canceled.
- Claiming in Mississippi
- Mississippi Lottery tickets can only be claimed in Mississippi.
- Winners under 21
- Only adults 21 or older can buy tickets or claim prizes. A ticket can be given as a gift to someone younger, but an adult family member or legal representative claims the prize for them.
- Staying anonymous
- The lottery doesn't reveal a winner's identity without their written permission. The claim form asks whether you agree to the lottery and the news media using your name and photo.
