More Claim Rules
- Prizes won online
- Prizes under $600 won with Rhode Island iLottery go straight into your iLottery account. Prizes of $600 or more must be claimed at Lottery Headquarters by the account holder.
- Cash or yearly payments
- Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot winners, and Millionaire for Life top and second prize winners, choose one cash payment or yearly payments within 60 days after becoming entitled to the prize, and the choice is final. A Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot is paid yearly if no choice is made.
- Your name is public
- Rhode Island's public records law makes the Lottery release a winner's full name and city or town to anyone who asks, so no winner can stay anonymous. The Lottery keeps the rest of a winner's information private if asked.
- Debts owed to the state
- Before paying a prize of $600 or more, the Lottery takes out unpaid child support, unemployment benefit overpayments and unpaid state taxes, after tax is withheld.
- Sharing a prize
- A group can split a prize if it decides when the prize is claimed. Each member gives a photo ID and Social Security number, and gets their own check and W-2G.
- Ten or more tickets
- To claim 10 or more tickets at Lottery Headquarters, first make an appointment with the Lottery's Customer Care department at 401-463-6500.
- Sign your ticket
- A ticket belongs to whoever holds it until it's signed, so sign the back as soon as you buy it.
- Tickets bought in Rhode Island
- A Powerball, Powerball Xs & Os, Mega Millions or Millionaire for Life ticket must be claimed in the state where it was bought, so a Rhode Island ticket is claimed with the Rhode Island Lottery.
