    More Claim Rules

    Claiming online in the app
Prizes from $101 to $5,000 can be claimed in the South Dakota Lottery mobile app: scan the ticket, fill in the digital claim form, and you're paid by ACH deposit, usually within 4 business days, or 8 for your first claim. You need a Players Club account. Sign the ticket and keep it until the claim is complete, and claim a multi-draw ticket only after its last drawing.
    Jackpots and second prizes
Any prize can be claimed by mail except the biggest, which are claimed in person. Dakota Cash and Lotto America jackpots, and the second prizes of Powerball, Mega Millions and Millionaire for Life, are claimed at a Lottery office. Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots, and Millionaire for Life's top prize, are claimed at the Lottery office in Pierre.
    Claiming by mail
Mail the signed ticket to the South Dakota Lottery in Pierre. For a prize of $100 or less, fill in the information asked for on the back of the ticket; for $101 or more, send the completed Prize Claim Form with it.
    Debts owed to the state
Before paying a prize over $100, the lottery checks for debts owed to or collected through South Dakota state agencies, child support first, and pays them out of the prize. You're paid the rest, and you can appeal within 30 days.
    Your name
If you ask to stay anonymous when you claim, the South Dakota Lottery won't publish your name, and it uses your name or photo in advertising only if you agree to it on the claim form. It still releases the store that sold the ticket, the game and the prize amount, and if it gets an open records request, it must give out your name, city, state, game and prize amount.
    Group wins
The lottery pays a prize to one person: the one who signed the back of the ticket. If several people signed it, they name one of them on the claim form to be paid.
    Claim deadline
Prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing. If the 180th day falls on a Saturday, Sunday or state holiday, the deadline moves to the next business day.
