    More Claim Rules

    Prizes at retailers
Any Lottery retailer pays prizes up to $50, and retailers can choose to pay prizes from $51 to $600. A ticket whose winning plays add up to more than $600 is claimed from the lottery.
    Jackpots and prizes over $510,000
Lotto, Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots, and prizes over $510,000 from those games, are claimed at Lottery headquarters in Baton Rouge. The lottery asks jackpot winners to call 225-297-2000 first to set a time. Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots can be paid from the 15th day after the drawing.
    Claiming by mail
Prizes up to $5,000 can be claimed by mail. Send a copy of both sides of the ticket, signed and filled in on the back, or the ticket itself, with a copy of your photo ID and a completed claim form. Powerball and Mega Millions claims need the original ticket. Once a prize is paid on a copy, the original is void, and the lottery isn't responsible for tickets lost in the mail.
    Multidraw tickets
You can claim a prize before a Multidraw ticket's last drawing. The retailer keeps the ticket and gives you an exchange ticket with the same numbers for the drawings left.
    ezmatch prizes
An Easy 5 ezmatch prize can be claimed as soon as the ticket is bought, and must be claimed within 180 days of the first drawing on the ticket. Claim it before the drawing and you get an exchange ticket for your Easy 5 play.
    Group wins
The lottery pays a prize to one person or one legal entity, like a partnership or trust, who shares it out. Each member of a group gives an IRS Form W-9, and for a prize paid at once the claimant can file IRS Form 5754 so each member gets their own W-2G. A group sharing a Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot must all choose the same payment.
    Winners' names
Every claim is a public record: the winner's name and city can be released, and the lottery can use them in news releases. It doesn't use winners in paid advertising unless they agree.
