    More Claim Rules

    Your name
Maine law keeps the identity of a winner of $100,000 or more confidential unless the winner agrees in writing to release it. A winner in Maine's Address Confidentiality Program is kept confidential at any amount.
    Sign your ticket
A Maine State Lottery ticket belongs to whoever holds it until it's signed, so sign the back as soon as you buy it. The lottery isn't responsible for lost or stolen tickets.
    Claiming at a store
To be paid by a Maine State Lottery retailer, fill in your name and address on the back of the ticket and show photo ID, as the lottery's rules require. For a prize of $600 or more, a retailer can check the ticket and give it back with a Claim Receipt, but you claim the prize from the lottery in person or by mail.
    Debts owed to the state
Before paying a prize, the Maine State Lottery takes out any debt the winner owes a state agency, in this order: child support, state taxes, unemployment benefit overpayments, court-ordered restitution, then court fines.
    Group wins
When a group claims one winning ticket, each member completes a claim form and the group says how the prize is divided. Each member gets their own check and W-2G for their share.
    Cash or yearly payments
Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto America and Tri-State Megabucks jackpot winners have 60 days to choose one cash payment instead of yearly payments, counted from filing the claim for Megabucks and from becoming entitled to the prize for the others. Without a choice, the jackpot is paid yearly. Millionaire for Life top and second prize winners make a final choice of cash or yearly payments within 60 days of becoming entitled to the prize.
    Yearly payments
If a jackpot winner dies before every yearly payment is made, the rest are paid to the winner's estate.
