    More Claim Rules

    Claim deadline
A draw game prize must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing: the ticket and any claim form must arrive by the end of the business day on day 180, or the next business day if the lottery is closed that day. Postmarks don't count.
    EZ Match prizes
EZ Match prizes are due 180 days after the purchase date on the ticket, not the drawing date. Cash one before the drawing and you get an exchange ticket for the drawings left.
    Multi-Draw tickets
When a winning Multi-Draw ticket still has drawings to come, the retailer pays the prize and prints an exchange ticket for the drawings left.
    Online Play prizes
Online Play prizes under $600 are paid into your NC Lottery account automatically, and prizes from $600 to $99,999 are claimed online. For $100,000 or more you start the claim online, then claim in person at headquarters in Raleigh once the lottery sends instructions, usually within 2 to 5 business days.
    Debts owed to the state
Before paying a prize of $600 or more, the lottery checks for debts recorded with the NC Department of Revenue and pays those out of the prize first.
    Winners' names are public
Once a prize is validated, the winner's name, city and state, the game, the amount won and the date are public records. The lottery keeps a winner's details private only with a valid protective order or an Address Confidentiality Program card.
    Group wins
Players sharing a ticket fill in an Affidavit of Multiple Ownership, and each one sharing a prize of $600 or more also completes a claim form and shows ID. Members who won't be at the claim in person complete the affidavit in advance and send copies of their ID.
    Jackpot payment choice
Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot winners choose cash or yearly payments within 60 days of claiming. A winner who doesn't choose by then is paid yearly, and the choice can't be changed.
    Claiming by mail
Mail the signed ticket, the claim form and, for $600 or more, copies of your ID. The lottery isn't responsible for lost or misdirected mail.
