    More Claim Rules

    Cash Value Option
For Lotto Texas, Powerball and Mega Millions, you choose 30 yearly payments or the Cash Value Option when you buy the ticket, and you can't change it later. A Mega Millions playslip with neither marked is rejected.
Jackpots and prizes over $5 million
Prizes over $5 million, every Lotto Texas, Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot, and any prize paid in yearly payments are claimed at Texas Lottery headquarters in Austin. Call 512-344-5252 first to check your ticket and make an appointment.
    Prizes over $2.5 million
Prizes over $2.5 million and up to $5 million can be claimed only at the Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio claim centers, or by mail. Smaller prizes can be claimed at any claim center.
    Claiming in the app
Prizes from $600 to $5,000 can be claimed in the Texas Lottery app: scan the ticket with Check My Ticket, sign in, and the prize is paid to you by Zelle. It's one ticket per claim, and you keep the ticket until you're paid.
    Claiming by mail
Sign the ticket before you mail it. A prize of $25 or more also needs a claim form with your Social Security or tax ID number. Mailed claims take up to 4 weeks, and you bear the risk if the ticket is lost in the mail.
    Retailers
Retailers may pay prizes of $599 or less but don't have to. They can pay by check or money order instead of cash, and can't charge a fee for it.
    Debts owed to the state
Before paying a prize over $600, the lottery checks for debts owed to the state. Delinquent child support is taken out of the prize, and a winner who owes the state another debt or delinquent taxes has the winnings held until it's paid.
    Staying anonymous
A winner of $1 million or more can choose, when claiming, to keep their name and other identifying details private. If the prize is paid in yearly payments, the lottery can release them 30 days after the claim.
    Group winners
The lottery pays one claimant per ticket. A group shares a prize by choosing one person to claim it, or by claiming as a trust, partnership or company with a federal employer ID number, whose documents the lottery's legal division reviews first.
    Military deadline extension
The 180-day claim deadline can be extended for some eligible military personnel. Call 800-375-6886 to ask.
